In the best case, what you bought with borrowed funds will appreciate in value. Home mortgages and student loans are examples of OK Debt. Automobile loans are on the border: They often satisfy the low-rate piece, but automobiles almost never appreciate in value. Bad Debt is everything else -- from your Gold credit card to the 600% loan from Vinny's Quick Cash.

0:50 Pick a winner. Out of all your cards, pick the one or two major credit cards that feature the lowest annual interest rate. Resolve to use those cards for emergencies only. As for all the other plastic pals in your wallet, remove temptation by taking them out of your wallet. Taken orally, its absorption is highly variable and unpredictable and often delayed, says Dr. Igor Grant, a UC San Diego psychiatrist who directs the university's Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research. Facts about being overweight have disturbed me to the point that I have really decided to take some positive action towards losing my excess pounds. I've known for ages my weight was unhealthy, but did not realise just how unhealthy until I read the facts about being overweight that I have reproduced below.

So what are the facts about being overweight that should be causing us so much concern? To share the facts that have really worried me I thought I would list them here:

1. In the US it is estimated that approximately 64% of people are overweight

2. Overweight people in Europe number approximately 48% of the population

3. Officially, 27% of the American population is obese

4. 325,000 deaths each year are directly related to obesity

5. Costs associated with obesity treatments were estimated at approximately $75 billion dollars in 2003.

6. 300 million people worldwide are obese

7. Worldwide 750 million people are classified overweight

8. For 2008, it was anticipated that the weight loss market would hit revenue of approximately $61 billion dollars

I think its the last one on my list of facts about being overweight that has got to me the most. I don't want to cut my life short because I haven't eaten properly or exercised enough. I know I am almost 50 pounds too heavy, and that I don't exercise anywhere near enough (well not at all really!) The facts about being overweight have finally hit home. If I want to see my children grow up and if I want to stay active and mobile I must do something about my weight now and not keep putting it off.

Much to the relief of my family I have now made a beginning on changing my lifestyle. After researching the facts above I also did some research on weight loss and the latest diet plans, and have discovered that there is no "quick fix'. To get healthy and in good shape I need a combination of a balanced, healthy diet and a simple exercise plan. The research shows that most people who take this approach manage to lose weight and keep it off.

Here are some more interesting facts that I discovered as I was searching:

* Diet pills do not keep weight off in the long term

* You usually only lose excess water on Hollywood style fad diets. Unfortunately, the water quickly returns once you return to eating properly again.

* In the long term, it is important to be responsible for knowing how to prepare your food and knowing exactly what to prepare. For this reason, expensive pre-packaged diet meals only really benefit the manufacturers.

* Expensive gym equipment builds muscle but without a proper eating plan you will not remove the fat above the muscles.

Daunting isnt it? No wonder the majority of overweight people (of which I certainly admit I am one) give up and make no changes at all. Unfortunately, the facts about being overweight wont let us keep thinking like that if we want a healthy, long and happy life.

There are some exceptions, if not noted in the plan as included in office visit you would still have to pay lab and x-rays.

A good understanding of the Preventative benefit is also key to comparing and understanding your benefits. Not all plans include Preventative visits. A Preventative exam is a screening and non diagnostic exam meant to maintain good health and foresee any problems with health. Sometimes the benefit will cover many different test and labs, while some will only cover a certain amount.

Each plan has limits set forth by the carrier/insurer/insurance company as well. Some examples of limits are: You are only allowed a specific number of office visits. You are allowed a certain dollar amount on things such as prescription benefits, labs, mental health and emergency visits. These are important to pay attention to when choosing and comparing plans.

Getting your prescriptions covered is important to many due to the high cost of prescriptions. So knowing how your prescription coverage works is very important. One plan may cover a generic at one co pay and a brand name at another. You might also have a cap. For instance the carrier may only agree to pay $500 a year in Brand name.

We never got taught how to thrive emotionally. Because of this, many of us suffer from feelings of depression that can hang around for weeks and months.

If you notice depression symptoms, you will naturally react by trying to get rid of or avoid them. We don't want to feel bad about ourselves, or empty, or heavy and meaninglessness. So we do what comes naturally, we try to suppress and resist these types of feelings.

The way we work to avoid and suppress these difficult emotions doesn't work, because we never learned even some of the most basic emotional intelligence. There are 3 methods we all try to use to deal with our negative feelings:

Anesthetize - alcohol, drugs, overeating Project/Act Out - kick the dog, be irritable with others, demean, attack Change the Channel " hike, garden, clean the house, watch tv

Feel bad? Eat enough chocolate ice cream and chocolate candies and you will successfully go into a sugar coma. You won't feel much of anything, not good feelings or bad ones. Anesthetizing will get the job done. But only for the short term, and it has side effects that can harm our physical well being.

Projecting our bad feelings also works only for a little while. When we yell at a colleague or smash a glass or plate, we feel a bit better, but only for the moment. But projection doesn't really resolve the underlying feeling, and it obviously tends to damage our relationships and frighten the people around us.

A healthier way to deal with negative feelings is to Change the Channel. Each one of us must learn to manage our mood swings, or we can end up overwrought and overstressed. So if we feel bad and go to a movie or go for a run, we lift our mood without doing any damage. Changing the channel on negative emotions is a good thing to learn how to do more efficiently.

However, changing the channel doesnt resolve the issue. If we feel sad and go visit a friend, when we return home the sadness might return also. The problem with all three ways of dealing with difficult emotions is that oftentimes the emotion we are trying to deal with comes back. Sure, you can deal with feelings of despondency by going to the bar and drinking, but the next morning with a hangover the feeling might come back with a vengeance.

For depression help, there are other methods that we need to employ to work with our difficult emotions. One way is to explore the feeling for 5 minutes THEN change the channel. There are several ways to do this, but five minutes a day of exploring rather than resisting our bad feelings can begin to shift our emotional well being.

Like taking medication, you may obtain relief from acupuncture, but acupuncture itself does not correct the underlying mechanical problem and certainly will not allow you to manage your own problem in the future.

In conclusion, as with other passive therapies where a health professional does something to you, this procedure has the potential to create dependency.

We all seem to just know that when it comes to emotions there are good ones and bad ones, and the game in life is to feel good and not feel bad. This is so obvious that it goes unexamined. Of course this is the way you deal with emotions!

Therefore, all the feelings that go with the condition of depression we classify as "bad" emotions, to be gotten rid of as quickly as we possibly can. Thus the box we're stuck in around depression is that depression is "bad." And we believe we should avoid or resist all the emotions that go with depression.

But there is a big problem to this approach of trying to get rid of all the feelings associated with depression, and it begins with a common emotional mistake we make all of the time. This emotional mistake has to do with trying not to feel bad feelings.

Try on the idea that you have an emotional body, and that your emotional body has a job to do, which is to feel feelings. Good ones, like joy and peace, and bad ones, like sadness or shame. It will feel all feelings. You cant actually keep it from feeling feelings.

Notice that your emotional body is a lot like the organ of your skin. You can't stop your skin from feeling soft or rough sensations, cool or warm. Our skin feels whatever it comes in contact with. In exactly that way our emotional body feels all emotions. You can't just feel only the good feelings. When you try to suppress bad ones, you only cause your feelings to get stuck. Then these bad feelings tend to stick around much longer, because they are "stuck." So trying not to feel the difficult emotions that go with depression is actually a way to keep the depression around, keep it from passing through!

So to get out of the box of depression, one method is to learn emotional intelligence so that you can move difficult emotions through your emotional body quickly. There is a lot to this for which there is no room in this article, but 5 minutes a day of exploring a difficult emotion can begin to free up your emotional body.

Is Work Stressing You Out?

Imagine being around beings that only shared how they actually feel. That's what my life was like growing up on a farm. The animals were completely genuine in how they felt, be it anger, sadness or joy.

We humans, hold in our feelings or try to disguise how we feel. Animals don't do that.

It's not often you come across an animal with high blood pressure or heart related problems.

That leads me to wonder just how much we contribute to our own health problems.

Job stress and health problems from it is a popular topic in the emails I receive. I get comments such as "My blood pressure was never this high until I started this job." OR "I'm exhaused all the time, especially when I get home from my desk job."

It's amazing just how hazardous modern life can be - even in an office atmosphere. Stress related problems account for over a million absences per day.

Corporate training has crafted curriculums around the very issue of job stress. There are expensive books and even huge conferences covering this topic.

How else can this problem be addressed?

Just stop working?

This is really not practical or feasible though for most of the population.

We can however, incorporate some fairly basic tips into our work day.

We can start by determining some logical limits. This means, occasionally having to turn down additional projects or favors.

This is addressed specifically to the population of people who are so driven or eager to please, that they will not allow themselves to reject unreasonable requests.

What real harm will occur if you passed on this particular burden?

Also, remember that it can be okay to ask for help yourself. If you manager, co-workers, friends and family are asking for help - maybe there's something to this.

Slowly walk for a few minutes every hour if possible. It doesn't have to be far, and certainly not fast. Just take the opportunity to stretch your legs and alleviate your mind for a bit.

Also not new - eat well. Eat healthy foods that will provide your body with the stamina and energy you seem to be lacking.

Remember to use good posture. The last thing you need on top of other job stress is a sore back.

Practice deep breathing. It doesn't require leaving the work space but will add oxygen which will also make a big difference to how you feel.

Give your fingers and hands a break. Typing all day can be exhausting too. Breathe in deeply, and as you exhale stretch out your fingers and feel the stress exiting through your finger tips.

How does that feel?

Leave work at work. The drive or ride home does not need to include a play by play memory of an exhausting day. Peaceful music or meditating will make a huge difference.

Michigan Health Insurance Basics

In Michigan health insurance carriers may underwrite their medical plans for individuals themselves. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is one exception to this rule. BCBS of MI and employer based HMO plans must be written as a HIPPA or guarantee issue plan.

The rule prevents those who may be excluded due to a prior or current medical issue from being able to acquire health insurance. BCBS of MI can not restrict based on current or history of a medical condition. They also must adhere to a community rate.

All the other individual carriers have less restrictions. They may determine benefits on their own factors. They may base a persons plan on their health conditions. They can use limitations and exclusions. They can exclude pre existing conditions for up to 12 months with no need for prior coverage credit.

Unlike the community rating restriction given to BCBS of MI, individual health carriers may base their rates on any factors they see fit. They often rate up due to medical condition or age. Typical rates are based on location, age groups and medical conditions.

Michigan does offer options that meet the needs of the low income community that may not be able to afford individual health insurance. Their MIChild plan is a Childrens Health Insurance Plan. For those that meet the income requirement and a few other requirements it covers office visits, prescriptions, hospitalization and dental to name a few.

There are some options for other low income individuals as well. Depending on the individuals needs there are a few options. The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) offers these. You must meet eligibility requirements determined my the Michigan Department of Human Services.

The State of Michigan currently has a rate of 11.4% of uninsured individuals. They wish to reduce this by offering the resources for all to find the health options that best meets their needs.
