Right now - today, I'm going to share with you the importance of using your emotional brain to realize how your body reacts to events.

Randy Pausch, a 47 year old college professor, who died recently of pancreatic cancer, said, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want". What is your experience of events in your life?

Dr Mike Gosling said, "Life is a series of events. Every event is an opportunity for change. And, rom the most painful events that you change the most." Do you agree with what Dr. Mike has said?

Every life event that occurs, gets interpreted by your brain. External events are received into your brain through our five senses and we are constantly busily examining our internal environment alsol - what's going on inside of our brain and body - to assess and to work out what's going on in our life. If we have positive feelings about life events, that's a Non-Problem Status. Because when good things occur, it's 'no problem' for us, we don't care. In fact we feel good about it.

The Limbic System does all the feeling in the brain. This is a primitive part of the brain - animals have a Limbic system also - and it is responsible for our preservation instinct.

The other part of the brain, which does all the thinking, is called the Cortex. Now human beings have a very developed Cortex, so we have a larger brain than most animals. The Limbic System and the Cortex are constantly inter-playing with one another.

The Limbic System is the part of the brain that assesses first, all the different senses that come into the body, through sight, sound, touch, taste, smell.

If you're tasting something, that experience is first assessed by the Limbic System for danger to determine whether or not there is anything about what you are sensing that is going to create a threat to this organism that it's looking after.

Surrendering to anxiety starts the recovery process because when we give up we no longer add adrenaline flow to our already adrenaline rich bloodstreams.

After total acceptance with no fighting whatsoever becomes our modus operandi, panic will leave us and we will never have to face it again. Any physical trainer will tell you to perform some stretching exercises before you start any form of fitness training to prevent possible injury. This is not the only thing that it is important to remember if you intend to carry out fitness programs. Many people consider it unnecessary but people who do not perform stretching movements before and after a workout are more likely to hurt themselves. Almost everyone knows that stretching before workout prevents injuries, but only a few people know that stretching after workout, when muscles are still warm, can increase flexibility.

While holding a position for a mere twenty seconds is enough for a warm, to really get the benefit when you have completed your workout you need to hold that position for a good minute. Do not go into a stretching position then immediately return to the relaxed position; and, do it repeatedly which is more appropriately termed bouncing while in a position. If you work the exercises in stages it will be easier and build up to the hardest stretches as you warm-up, this will also ensure all your muscles receive equal attention.

A commonly forgotten area of the body to warm up, and one that is easy to injure, is the neck so make sure that the neck is warmed up by applying pressure to the head at the front, back and sides using pressure from the palm of your hand. It is always a good idea to continue with this stretching at certain points in the fitness training workout particularly if a difficult exercise is about to be performed as it will help make the routine easier. It is never worth attempting certain moves because others can manage them; wait until you are ready. Remember not to over-stretch yourself and you will gain more from it. There are days when your body may be too tired that you may have to consider reducing your range of motion so learn to rest in between sets and stations to make sure that the body has enough time to recover its energy.
